Delivery rider juggles studies and deliveries; graduates magna cum laude
A 23-year-old delivery rider from Parañaque City graduated magna cum laude from Adamson University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication degree last July 14.
Francis Jan Ax Valerio went viral for attending his online classes despite his busy schedule as a delivery rider.
Mayor Eric Olivarez expressed pride in Valerio who was a senior high school student of Olivarez College, a non-sectarian college along Dr. A. Santos Avenue, Parañaque, that offers academic programs on basic education, junior and senior high school, undergraduate, graduate and technical education courses.
“Ang naging motivation ko ay ang aking pamilya. High school ako noon, walang wala talaga kami, pinapalayas kami ng mga landlords sa inuupahan namin dahil hindi kami nakakabayad sa upa kaya tinulungan ko tatay ko magtinda ng suman para pambaon ko sa school.” (My family is my motivation. I was in high school when we were evicted by our landlords for failure to pay the rent in the houses that we were renting. I helped my father sell suman (rice cake) so that I could go to school).
Olivarez said Valerio juggled several jobs to make both ends meet -- as a delivery rider, a virtual assistant, while attending school.
Valerio recently signed an employment contract with a company. He also wants to pursue law or a film course in the future.
