2 brothers nabbed for unlicensed guns after evading police checkpoint in Cebu

CEBU CITY – Police arrested two brothers for carrying unlicensed firearms after a brief chase Wednesday, July 20, in San Fernando, Cebu.

The suspects were identified as William, 42, and Roel Lapasaran, 36.

Police manning a checkpoint on a highway in the City of Naga spotted the two brothers aboard a motorcycle at past 9 p.m.

Police Master Sgt. Celso Rivera, desk officer of the City of Naga Police Station, said the two brothers noticed the checkpoint and William, the driver of the motorcycle, immediately executed a U-turn.

Police became suspicious because of their attempt to evade the checkpoint and gave chase.

The two brothers did not stop but were eventually cornered when the motorcycle they were riding crashed in Poblacion, San Fernando.

Police found out that William was carrying a .380 revolver while Roel was armed with a .45 caliber pistol.

Further investigation will be conducted to determine why the two brothers were carrying firearms.

Appropriate charges will be filed against the suspects, police said.
