Weltmeister W5 EV launched

Living EVolved

There’s a new car company in town and this one exclusively sells fully-electric vehicles.

WM Motor Philippines, local distributor of Weltmeister in the country, just launched their W5 Electric Vehicle crossover SUV. Weltmeister is German for “World Champion” and is an EV brand based out of Shanghai, China.

Exterior

The Weltmeister W5 is styled like your typical crossover SUV. It has high ground clearance, a long wheelbase, and short overhangs. It rolls on 18-inch alloy rims on 225/55’s. It features smart LED headlights, unique projector headlights with daytime running lights under the headlights and lower on the bumper.

Uniquely EV features are the illuminated logo in the middle of where a grille would be. It also serves as a battery level indicator when charging. Underneath that is the front charging port for convenience. Behind, the tailgate features integrated tail lights which give it distinct look. Weltmeister says this is to give it a “Living, EVolved” look. Like a Tesla, the flush-mounted door handles pop out when you approach the W5 with the keyfob.

Interior

The interior is luxurious, yet functional. Premium materials and soft touch surfaces surround the occupants. Leather seats and tilt/telescopic adjustable leather wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone air conditioning just like you’d find in top-of-the-line mainstream brands. The rear passengers get an armrest, good leg room and rear aircon vents.

The dashboard houses a 15.6-inch Interactive Touchscreen Display which is the control center for entertainment (Bluetooth connectivity), navigation, driver assist systems and the 360-cam which offers driving and parked recording saved onto an SD card.

The W5 offers a great view of your surroundings with the panoramic sunroof. Cargo space is 488 liters which expands to 1500 liters when the rear seats are folded forward.

Powerplant and charging

The W5 runs off a 52KWh Ternary Lithium battery which powers a permanent magnet synchronous motor which puts out 217-horsepower with 315-Nm of torque. It offers a maximum range of about 400-km on a full charge.

Naturally, the next questions is how to charge it. The W5 has convenient charging options. The first is a GB/T standard DC charging port located in the front of the vehicle to quick-charge the W5. An AC charging port is located at the rear side of the vehicle for longer charging with a conventional outlet. Plugged here, it can also slow charge via a 220V outlet charger adaptor. Buyers will get a 7Kw wall mounted home charging system which can be installed by technicians from WM Motors Phils.

Safety

For safety, the W5 is equipped with 6 SRS airbags, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution, electronic stability program, front and rear parking sensors, lane change assist and blind spot assist. It’s also equipped with an N95 cabin filter and a smart UV disinfection system.

Price

The Weltmiester W5 is offered in one trim level and is priced at P2,548,000.00. To view the unit, the WM Motors Philippines dealership is located at the ground floor of the Seven Neo Bldg. 5th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
