Taguig LGU says soil erosion from diggings, rainwater caused landslide

The Taguig City government said soil erosion from diggings done by residents and rainwater that accumulated caused the landslide in a barangay on Tuesday, July 19.

According to the Taguig police, the landslide happened at about 1:30 p.m. in Damayan Area in Barangay Central Signal Village, Taguig.

The landslide damaged a sari-sari store owned by Quinnee Morillo and injured a 17-year-old female who worked as a storekeeper for the business establishment. She was brought to the Taguig Pateros District Hospital for treatment.

In a statement, the Taguig City government said, “Ang pagbilis na soil erosion dahil sa mga paghuhukay na ginawa ng mga nakatira sa lugar at mga naipong tubig dulot ng pag-ulan ang tinitingnang sanhi ng pagguho ng lupa (The acceleration of soil erosion due to diggings done by residents in the area and water accumulated because of rains are being looked at as the cause of the landslide).”

The city government declared the affected area as a “danger zone” and closed it off.

It reminded people to follow regulations and get building permits for the construction and repair of homes and buildings.

“Inuulit din na sumunod sa regulasyon na nag-aatas sa lahat na kumuha ng building permit kapag nagpapatayo o nagpapaayos ng mga bahay o gusali para masiguro ang kaligtasan ng lahat (It is reiterated to follow regulations mandating everyone to get a building permit when constructing or repairing houses or buildings to ensure the safety of all),” the city government said.

Taguig’s quick response team, engineers, and social workers responded to the area to inspect the damage and ensure the safety of residents.
