Senators ok PBBM's govt-to-govt deals to purchase cheaper fertilizer

Senators today July 20 threw their support behind a plan of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr, to go into government-to-government deal to purchase cheaper fertilizer.

‘’Dapat na! (Which should be the case!). Actually nauna na kami ng SINAG- ABONO other agri groups na nakiusap sa China Ambassador noong Abril. (Actually we were ahead of SINAG-ABONO and other agricultural groups in talking to the Chinese Ambassador {Huang Xilian) last April,’’ Senator Imee Marcos said.

Marcos, elder sister of President Marcos, also said that China immediately gave P4 million worth of Urea last May 25.

‘’Dapat makisuyo sa ating mga kalapit at kaibigang mga bansa ng mas mababang presyo at siguradong suplay (The Philippine government should also talk to the country’s neighboring countries that have cheaper prices and available supply),’’ she added.

Senator Aquilino Pimentel III said government-to-government arrangement is supposed to give better or lower prices ‘’because foreign government will refer us to their best suppliers and our government is not supposed to be interested in making a profit from transaction.’’

Hence, theoretically dapat (supposed to be) lower prices for our final consumers. Supposed to be,’’ he pointed out.

‘’G to G (government to government) arrangement means the Philippine government buys from (a) foreign government,’’ he explained.

‘’Pagdating dito owned ang shipment by the PH government, the agency from whose budget the payment came from will be the owner (Upon arrival, the shipment shall belong to the government agency whose budget was used in the payment),’’ he added.
