The City Health Department (CHD) of Pasig City logged 302 active Covid-19 cases as of Tuesday, July 19, following the resurgence of the virus infections that is presently being observed in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.
According to the CHD's data, Barangay Ugong has the highest number of active cases, recording 40, followed by Barangay Rosario with 31.
Five barangays logged 20 and above active cases: Kapitolyo (24), San Antonio (23), Maybunga (22), Pinagbuhatan (21), and Manggahan (20).
Barangays Sumilang, San Joaquin, Palatiw, and Malinao each recorded only one active case.
Meanwhile, Barangays Bagong Katipunan, Kapasigan, Sagad, San Nicolas, and Sta. Rosa had zero active cases.
In total, Pasig City has 82,665 confirmed cases, with 80,755 recovered individuals.
Around 1,608 individuals have died from Covid-19 in the city as of July 19.
Last June 15, the city began to observe an increase in Covid-19 infections, logging 45 active cases on that date.
However, the uptick did not reflect a parallel increase in hospital admissions, according to the CHD.
The city's active cases first breached 100 on June 22 with 104 cases.
The Department of Health (DOH) placed Pasig City under the moderate risk classification along with Marikina City, Quezon City, San Juan City, and the Municipality of Pateros on June 25.
The DOH cited their "rapid growth rate, which exceeded 200 percent," from having a low number of cases prior to the surge.
From June 28 to July 5, active cases varied from 120 to 177.
The active cases passed 200 on July 6 with 209. From July 6 to present, the data has consistently shown active cases within the 201 to 285 range.
Prior to breaching the 300 mark on July 19, the city recorded 274 active cases on July 18.
The Pasig CHD utilizes a Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, Reintegrate (PDITR) strategy throughout all phases of the pandemic.
Dr. Joseph Panaligan, chief of Pasig CHD, has previously stated in a text message to Manila Bulletin on June 16 that "the city government is ready for any eventuality in case there is a surge."
They are equipped with the digital contact tracing tools, the molecular laboratory, the isolation and quarantine facilities, as well as the antigen test kits, and the Covid-19 vaccines.
The DOH indicated a rise in Covid-19 cases since mid-May to June.
DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said on Wednesday, July 20, that "cases will continue to increase by the end of July according to their projections."
The recent surge is attributed to entry of the Omicron variants in the country, with the BA.5 subvariant predominantly identified in majority of the cases.
As of July 20, 816 were BA. 5 subvariant cases, 42 were BA. 4, and 52 were BA. 2.12.1, as per report of the DOH.
