The Filipinas paid a courtesy visit to President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. at the Malacañang Palace Wednesday, July 20, after their historic championship run in the recently concluded 2022 AFF Women's Championship.

Marcos thanked both the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) for the success of football in the Philippines, adding that their years of effort and hard work have finally come to fruition.
"Sports means more than just playing games, it means developing discipline, learning to sacrifice, to be gracious in victory," said Marcos. "Learning to work with other people, as a team, which are lessons we carry on in our life. And that's how important sports is."
Also present were PFF president Mariano "Nonong" Araneta Jr., secretary-general Atty. Edwin Gastanes, and PSC executive director and officer-in-charge Atty. Guillermo Iroy Jr., who handed a Team Philippines jacket to Marcos.
The Filipinas were the first sports personalities who graced Malacañang since Marcos took office last June 30.
The Philippine women's national football team, led by team captain Tahnai Annis and star forward Sarina Bolden, bagged its first-ever title in international level and its maiden AFF crown since the tournament began in 2004.
The AFF title was also a feat to remember as the lady booters improved from their fourth-place finish in the 2019 edition.
The Filipinas are now bracing for their biggest challenge yet in the FIFA World Cup next year.
