Scattered rains to continue over several parts of western Luzon due to 'habagat'

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over several areas in western Luzon due to the cyclone-enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, July 2.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered moderate to heavy monsoon rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Kalayaan Islands.

It said the effect of the habagat was expected to further weaken as tropical storm “Domeng” (international name “Aere”) and severe tropical storm “Chaba” (formerly “Caloy”) continued to move away from the country.

As of 4 a.m., Saturday, the center of Domeng was estimated at 975 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

If it maintains its current track, PAGASA said Domeng will already be outside the country’s area of responsibility by Saturday morning or afternoon.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may prevail over the rest of the country in the next 24 hours.
