The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has already reached its projected number of voter registrants for the December Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls.

Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco revealed this during the signing of a memorandum of agreement with SM Supermalls for mall voter registration held in Manila on Tuesday, July 18.

"We have actually reached our target. For the purposes of planning, since in the May 9 elections we are at 65 million plus, we are expecting to be at 66 million. So right now for the regular voters we have reached that mark, the 500, 000 mark and we are on track for the 23 million expected voters for SK elections," he said.

Last month, Laudiangco said the projected total number of registered voters for Barangay Elections is 66,053,357.

As for the Sangguniang Kabataan Elections, he said, the projected total number of registered voters is 23,059,227.

Data from the Comelec showed that there are already 1,712,315 new registrants as July 18.

These are voters aged 15 to 17 years old with 1,073,847 applicants; the 18 to 30 years old with 547,389 applicants; and 31 years old and above with 91,079 applicants.

Meanwhile, Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino said they expect there will be more applicants especially with the July 23 deadline of the voter registration nearing.

"We are expecting that there will be more (applicants) as the last draws closer. As we all know, when the last day comes, it is always a blockbuster," she said.

Voter registration resumed July 4.
