Suspect in gruesome murder of delivery rider in Cagayan de Oro nabbed

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Police arrested one of three suspects in the murder of a 24-year-old delivery rider on Coastal Road in Barangay Lapasan here hours after the incident Sunday, July 17.

Police Lt. Macario Linog Jr., Agora Police Station deputy commander, identified the suspect as Erwin Adame, 34, of Barangay Puntod, this city. Adame was arrested in Barangay Lapasan at around 10:30 p.m.

Linog said the minor girlfriend of victim Cris Semaña, of Barangay Lapasan, positively identified the suspect through mugshots at the Agora police station.

“He (Erwin Adame) was positively identified by the victim’s minor girlfriend and she said that Erwin Adame was one of the suspects who held and stabbed her boyfriend, Cris Semaña,” Linog said in the vernacular.

The victim sustained 10 stab wounds and she told the police that she was raped.

The Agora police deputy chief, however, said that Erwin was not involved in the alleged rape but he will be included in the case.

“Dili ni siya mao, dili mao ni. Pero i-apil gihapon namo ni siya kay siya ma’y gahawid atong laki, rason para mahimo tong pag-rape atong bae (He (Adame) was not involved (referring to the alleged rape). But we will still include him because he held the victim (Semaña), which is the reason why the minor girlfriend was raped).”

The police are currently awaiting the result of her medico-legal examination to confirm the alleged rape.

Linog had earlier said that there could possibly be three suspects in the incident as there was one lookout aside from the two individuals who approached the victims.

However, the victim’s girlfriend only identified one suspect from the mugshots presented to her.

Linog clarified that the two victims were not dating in the area. He said the victims went there to look for a peaceful area where they can settle their misunderstandings.

Investigation is ongoing and police are currently looking at robbery as a possible motive for the killing.

Semaña’s brother hoped that Cris’ girlfriend recovers from the traumatic experience as she is the only one who can help the police with the investigation.

Linog assured that they are taking care of her with the help of the Women and Children's Protection Desk (WCPD) officers of the Agora police.
