Over 14M national ID cards already distributed, PhilPost says

More than 14 million national identification cards were already distributed as of July 8 this year, the Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost) said amid numerous complaints of the delay on its distribution.

This developed as PhilPost Postmaster General and Chief Executive Office Norman Fulgencio clarified that it is not their agency that should be blamed for the delay in the distribution.

“We only receive these IDs for distribution. The Philpost is not in a better position to explain the delay,” he said during the Laging Handa Briefing on Monday, July 18.

But Fulgencio said that based on their data as of July 8, at least 14,033,000 were already distributed out of the 14,800,000 that they received since the National ID was implemented.

He said there are still more than 700,000 IDs to be distributed but said the figure may have already been reduced to 50 percent as of July 16.

Fulgencio also explained that they have been coordinating with the local government units, particularly barangay officials, for what he called a plaza-type distribution of national IDs.

In this scheme, he said they would coordinate with the barangay captain for weekend distribution of national IDs if the messengers would not able to deliver the cards on the first attempt due to the absence of the receiver in the house.

Based on the policy, only the owner of the national ID is allowed to receive.

Fulgencio sais that those who have not yet received their national ID could check the status of their cards at their website http://tracking.phlpost.gov.ph.

He added that if the names of the recipients did not appear on the status, this means that the PhilPost has not yet received the copy of the national ID.
