It is the hope of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) that the decision on whether to postpone or not the Dec. 5, 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls will be out the soonest.

"We are just hoping and praying that if indeed a Republic Act will come out, it should come out the soonest possible time so that we could postpone any other procurements that we have," Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said during a virtual forum hosted by Stratbase ADR Institute and Democracy Watch Philippines Monday, July 18.
On their part, he said, they will just continue with their preparations for the forthcoming poll exercise.
"Until such time that a new RA is passed into law setting, resetting, postponing or rescheduling, Comelec shall continue to comply with the dictates of RA 11642 and continue with our preparations for BSKE," said Laudiangco.
"At any rate if there's such a legislation, we will likewise comply with that and cease our preparations," he added.
The poll official also explained that their preparations will not go to waste in the event that BSKE is postponed.
"Even if the BSKE will not push thru on December that regsitration will serve its purpose and the new registrants can vote in the suceeding elections," Laudiangco said.
"In so far as the promulgation of resolutions, we could repromulgate and use other resolutions to govern the BSKE should it be reset to a later date," he added.
Laudiangco also said that the goods and services to be procured can be readily used in a date to be set by any RA postponing the elections.
"We have done this in 2018 wherein the ballots and other accountable forms were dated differently from the date of elections...it could be readily authorized by virtue of a Comelec resolution," he said.
Earlier, Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez said they are looking at proposals to postpone the December BSKE.
