BLACKPINK's Jennie in HBO Max's 'The Idol'

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK’s Jennie is in the HBO Max’s series “The Idol.” 

HBO released the official trailer of “The Idol” on July 17, which showed Jennie.

“The Idol” was created by Sam Levinson, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. The series will have Tesfaye and Lily-Rose Depp in the starring roles.

According to HBO, “‘The Idol,’ set against the backdrop of the music industry, centers on a self-help guru and leader of a modern-day cult, who develops a complicated relationship with an up-and-coming pop idol.”

A six-episode series, “The Idol” will be Jennie’s acting debut. She debuted as a member of BLACKPINK in 2016.

“When the multi-talented Abel ‘The Weeknd’ Tesfaye, Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson brought us ‘The Idol,’ it was clear their subversive, revelatory take on the cult of the music industry was unlike anything HBO had ever done before. Shortly after, the brilliant duo of Joe Epstein and Amy Seimetz joined forces with the rest of the team, and this dream became a reality,” Francesca Orsi, executive vice president, HBO Programming, previously said.

In April, Variety reported that Seimetz left the series as director, and was to undergo reworks.

“‘The Idol’s’ creative team continues to build, refine, and evolve their vision for the show and they have aligned on a new creative direction. The production will be adjusting its cast and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series. We look forward to sharing more information soon,” HBO told Variety.
