Aaron Black dedicates rest of season to late grandmother

Meralco guard Aaron Black is dedicating his clutch performance against San Miguel Beer, as well as the rest of the season to his late grandmother who passed away in the US over the weekend.

Playing with a heavy heart and all, Black finished with 15 points including a clutch triple he drilled with 50 seconds left to put the game away and help Meralco secure a quarterfinals seat.

“That was her,” said Black moments after the game.

“She just passed away, nami-miss na namin siya but at the same time gusto ko i-dedicate hindi lang yung game na ito pero yung the rest of the season para sa kanya,” he added.

“She’s with me, I know she wanted to come over and watch the game sayang di na niya nagawa pero at least alam ko nanonood sya out there and I'm happy she’s at peace now.”

It was also the reason why his father, Bolts head coach Norman Black, has missed the past few games for Meralco after going on an indefinite leave to attend to his ailing mother, Bessie Black, who passed away at the age of 85.

The younger Black said it was hard to play and not be with his grandmother in her last moments but he is at peace knowing that her grandmother is now with "Him".

“I talk to God a lot. He helps me out, siyempre. I find comfort na nandun na yung grandmother ko kasama Niya at the same time. I’m very sad, our whole family is sad. We miss her but I'm trying to dedicate each game, each practice to her.”
