Taguig City's active Covid-19 cases rise to more than 600

Taguig City’s total active Covid-19 cases increased to more than 600, according to the Department of Health (DOH). 

Data from the DOH’s Covid-19 Tracker showed that Taguig added 84 new Covid-19 cases on July 16 to bring the total active cases to 646, up from 542 active cases recorded on July 14. 

As of July 16, Taguig has 85,144 total confirmed cases, 83,957 recoveries and 541 deaths.

According to data by Dr. David Guido of OCTA Research, with the 84 new Covid-19 cases, Taguig ranked fourth among local government units in the National Capital Region (NCR) with the highest new cases after Quezon City (202), Manila (113) and Makati (95).

Guido also said NCR’s one-week growth rate stood at 28 percent, down from 41 percent in the previous week. 

From July 9 to 15, he said, NCR had an average of 802 cases per day compared to 624 from July 2 to 8, translating to an average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 5.57 per day per 100,000 population. 

“Note that the BA.4/BA.5 wave in the NCR  is figuring to last longer than the corresponding wave in South Africa,” he said. 

Meanwhile, the Taguig City government reported that from July 11 to 15, a total of 6,115 individuals were vaccinated. 

The total includes 4,220 individuals 18 years old and above who received their first and second doses, and first and second booster shots; 301 12 to 17 years old who got their first and second doses, and 612 who were given their first booster shot; and 982 five to 11 years old who were administered their first and second doses.
