Marcos sends support to Filipino female athletes vying for AFF title


President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has congratulated the Philippine women's football team for reaching the finals of the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship and conveyed his support to the national team who will go up against Thailand Sunday night, July 17.

In a video message posted on Facebook an hour before the anticipated championship match, Marcos wished the Filipino female athletes good luck before they faced the Thais at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

"Allow me to just send my best and strongest and most fervent good luck, wishes to our women's football team who have managed to reach the finals and are now vying for the championship of the Asean Football Federation Finals," the President said in his message.

" Ako at ang buong Pilipinas ay nasa likod ninyo (The entire Philippines and I are behind you). And we will be watching and waiting for the good result for which we will be congratulating you for. Good luck to you and I am sure you will do very well," the President added.

In reaching the finals of the tournament, the group achieved a milestone as the first national football team to reach the finals of a major international competition.

Marcos also paid tribute to the national team, saying that by reaching the championship, they have proven that Filipino athletes are really excellent. He also expressed optimism that they will bag the championship.
