Muntinlupa LGU recognized by DENR-EMB for composting program

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region (EMB-NCR) recognized the Muntinlupa City government’s program on composting.

Composting is the “controlled decomposition of organic matter by microorganisms, mainly bacteria and fungi, into a humus-like product,” according to Republic Act 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000).

During the event, the ESC presented the city’s dual drum composter project in Barangay Poblacion, which was donated by the office of former congressman and now Mayor Ruffy Biazon and fabricated by the Department of Science and Technology.

The EMB-NCR also presented a certificate of recognition to Muntinlupa for its “solid commitment in the implementation of the Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, and for their efforts in providing a Clean and Healthy Environment for everyone within their areas of jurisdiction.”

Joining Misa at the event were ESC staff Vincent Alon, Barangay Bayanan staff Jennie Solema, Barangay Sucat staff Carmenchu Rongavilla and Barangay Poblacion staff May Arciaga.
