ITCZ to bring scattered rains over southeastern Mindanao

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), a region where winds coming from the northeast and southeast hemispheres converge that triggers thunderstorms and rain showers, may affect the southeastern portion of Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, July 16.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail over Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat.

PAGASA advised those in these areas to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides caused by “moderate to at times heavy rains.”

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
