Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental police chief killed in road crash 2 days after assuming post
BACOLOD CITY – The police chief of Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental was killed when the motorcycle he was driving was hit by a dump truck in Sitio Buli, Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Friday, July 15, two days after assuming his post Wednesday, July 13.

Killed was Police Lt. Col. Ruben Verbo, 44, of Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.
Five others, including Verbo’s live-in partner and the Negros Oriental provincial police director, were injured in the incident.
They were identified as Richie Dayday, 33, Verbo’s live-in partner, of Ayungon, Negros Oriental; Police Col. Germano Mallari, 52, of Daan Bantayan, Cebu, and the Negros Oriental police director; motorcycle drivers Edwardo Aceñas, 38, of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental; and Trifon Paltingca, 42, of Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental; and dump truck driver Wenny Boy Nagor, 24, of Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.
Police Lt. Ruby Aurita, spokesperson of the San Carlos City Police Station, said Verbo, with Dayday as backrider, and Mallari were on their way here onboard their motorcycles to meet Police Col. Leo Pamittan, Negros Occidental police director, regarding their Barangayan project in the boundaries of Negros Oriental and Occidental.
A dump truck driven by Nagor loaded with gravel driven encountered mechanical trouble and swerved on the opposite lane while the victims were ascending the curved part of the road in Sitio Buli. Aurita said the victims stopped at a distance when the dump truck swerved. However, the dump truck fell on its side and dragged the motorcycle of Verbo, who was leading Mallari.
Aurita said that Verbo and Dayday failed to jump off their motorcycle and were thrown off to a canal while the three injured motorcycle victims managed to avoid the dump truck.
Aurita said that Verbo was declared dead on arrival in a hospital, while Dayday is still confined at the hospital. She said that Mallari and the three others, including the dump truck driver, sustained minor injuries.
Aurita said the dump truck driver will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries, and damage to properties.
She said they are still checking the background of Aceñas and Paltingca if they were part of the convoy.
