FDA: Lucky Me! instant noodle products safe to eat

All Lucky Me! instant noodle products that were manufactured locally are safe for consumption, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Saturday, July 16.

In a statement, the FDA said that "all flavor variants of locally manufactured Lucky Me! Instant Noodle" have "pass the standard for ethylene oxide and are safe for consumption."

On Friday, July 15, the agency said that no traces of ethylene oxide were found in Lucky Me! Pancit Canton Regular, Pancit Canton Extra Hot Chili, Pancit Canton Chilimansi, and Instant Mami Beef Regular. However, the presence of the said chemical was detected in Pancit Canton Kalamansi.

The FDA clarified on Saturday that Pancit Canton Kalamansi "pass the standard for ethylene oxide and are safe for consumption."

"The level of ethylene oxide in Pancit Canton Kalamansi (less than 0.01 mg/kg) passes the standard for ethylene oxide even of the European Union. The acceptable level of EU is 0.02 mg/kg," it said.

To note, the governments of Ireland, Malta, and France recently issued health warnings against specific Lucky Me! products as "high levels of ethylene oxide" were supposedly found in these products.

In its statement on Friday, FDA noted that the contaminated products abroad “were manufactured in Thailand. They were not locally produced and were not distributed in the Philippines.”
