PDEA hails Sen. Go's Magna Carta proposal for its workers

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) expressed appreciation to Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go for strongly calling for the enactment of the Magna Carta for the agency’s workers which will provide more benefits to its officials and personnel.

In a statement of gratitude Friday, July 15, the PDEA recognized that Go has "consistently sought what is best for its personnel,fully aware of the dangers the agents encounter in the suppression of criminality particularly in the implementation of their drug-busting duties."

"In the war against illegal drugs, knowing that our lawmakers are also concerned for our drug law enforcement is a tremendous morale booster for the men and women of PDEA," the PDEA said.

“The Filipino people can rest assured that the PDEA will never falter in its fight against illegal drug traffic,’’ it added.

On July 13, Go vowed to continue to exert effort in calling for the passage into law of a Magna Carta for PDEA officers and personnel as he emphasized that the country’s war on drugs is one of the government’s most pressing concerns and the agency has a crucial role in its implementation.

Go credited former President Rodrigo Duterte for the huge "success" of the government’s all-out war against illegal drugs, citing that it is important to provide more benefits to anti-narcotics personnel as they face extreme peril in protecting the lives of the people against the drug menace.

The proposed Magna Carta aims to acknowledge the many contributions of the PDEA officers and personnel in aimlessly putting their lives at extreme risk of injury and death for the fulfillment of their duties.

If passed into law, the PDEA employees will gain ample living and working conditions and much improved employment terms and career opportunities through a more thorough and comprehensive career development program, with proper training to enhance their knowledge, competence, transparency, respect for human dignity and commitment to service.
