A 4.6-magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Luzon at around 4:36 p.m., Friday, July 15, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 7 kilometers (km) southwest of Masinloc, Zambales, and at a depth of 40 km.
It was felt at Intensity II as a “slightly weak” tremor in Quezon City.
Its instruments also recorded the quake at Intensity IV in Iba, Zambales; Intensity III in Infanta in Pangasinan and Olongapo City; Intensity II in Gapan City, Dagupan City, and Subic and San Antonio in Zambales; and Intensity I in Plaridel in Bulacan, Malabon City, Pasig City, Quezon City, Navotas City, San Jose and Palayan City in Nueva Ecija, Guagua in Pampanga, Basista and Bolinao in Pangasinan, San Francisco in Quezon, and Tarlac City.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
