Magnitude 4.2 quake jolts Leyte province — Phivolcs

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Leyte province at around 3:18 p.m., Friday, July 15, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 7 kilometers (km) southwest of Burauen, Leyte, and at a depth of 1 km.

It was felt at Intensity V as a “strong” quake in Ormoc City.

Its instruments also recorded the quake at Intensity IV in Albuera, Leyte; Intensity III in Abuyog and Baybay in Leyte; Intensity II in Mahaplag, Dulag, Alangalang, and Hilongos in Leyte; and Intensity I in Borongan City, Eastern Samar and Kananga, Leyte.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
