K-pop group Aespa's 'Girls' album sells 1.12 million copies in first week

K-pop group Aespa sold more than one million copies of their new album to set a new record.

According to Korea’s Hanteo Chart, Aespa’s “Girls” album, released on July 8, sold 1,126,068 in the first week of release.

With this, Hanteo Chart said, Aespa emerged as the first K-pop girl group to become a “million-seller,” which refers to artists that sell one million copies of an album. 

The first-week sales period for Aespa’s “Girls” was from July 8 to 14.

According to Hanteo Chart, “Girls’ sold 806,891 copies on the first day on July 8, followed by 14,834 copies on July 9; 13,525 on July 10; 64,240 on July 11; 83,257 copies on July 12; 11,957 on July 13; and 131,364 on July 14 to bring the grand total first-week sales to 1.12 million.

Aespa’s previous album “Savage” sold 276,877 copies in the first week of release based on Hanteo Chart data.

Hanteo Chart said it will award Aespa with the million certification plaque for the one million copies sold for “Girls” and a new record award for first-week sales for female K-pop groups.

Aespa earlier set a new record when “Girls” sold 806,891 copies on the first day of release.

This was the highest first-day sales for a K-pop girl group, edging out BLACKPINK’s “The Album,” which sold 589,310 copies on the first day of release on Oct. 6, 2020.
