Four Biñan City cops in hot water over alleged involvement in attempted murder of two assets

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Calamba City, Laguna -- Four police officers of Biñan City Police Station are now being investigated for their alleged involvement in an attempted murder of two of their ‘assets’ on early Thursday morning (July 14) along Congressional Road, Barangay F. De Castro in GMA, Cavite province.

The four policemen, whose names were withheld, are all assigned at Biñan City Police Station. Their identities are also being verified.

Based on a report from Police Regional Office 4A, the victims were Renato Alcala, 39, and Erwin Cabatino, 58, vendor. The two were allegedly police informants.

According to the report, the victims went to Biñan City PS to inform them that an alleged drug pusher was operating in Barangay Wawa in Biñan City on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Report added that the assets were advised to proceed at COMPAC (Police Assistance Center) in Barangay Tubigan, also in the city, where they were asked to  wait there until 7:30 p.m. for the arrival of cops.

However, no policemen arrived.

The assets decided to go back to Biñan City PS where they were referred to alleged intelligence operatives.

The assets and the unnamed intelligence operatives went into discussion.

After that, Alcala and the policemen proceeded to Barangay Wawa to conduct police surveillance, but Alcala failed to pinpoint the house of the suspected drug pusher, which caused the policemen to get mad at him.

According to Alcala he was punched several times by the cops and brought him to COMPAC where he was handcuffed, blindfolded, and mauled.

Cabatino, who was left at Biñan City PS, was fetched by one of the operatives and also brought to COMPAC.

From COMPAC, the two assets were instructed to ride at the back of separate motorcycles driven by the operatives going to the said place in GMA, Cavite.

At that juncture, one of the operatives pulled his hand gun and shot Alcala but missed.

Cabatino, on the other hand, managed to escape towards a residential place.

The operatives then left the place, according to investigator on case P/Msg. Jonarey Visca.
