Drunk man ran over by oncoming train in Quezon


LUCENA CITY, Quezon – An unidentified man was hit and killed by an oncoming Philippine National Railways (PNR) train Thursday, July 14, here.

The victim, according to a police report, was under the influence of liquor and tried to cross the PNR tracks at 5:05 a.m.

The train with body number DHL-001 was driven by Aldren de Los Santos, 41, of San Pablo City, Laguna.

PNR Lucena Station Train Marshall Hare Lord Lavadia told police that the victim was hit by the train and fell on the side of the railroad track. The train stopped and the victim was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead at 11:22 a.m.

The PNR-Lucena Station failed to report the incident to Lucena City PNP for proper disposition, the report said.

Police Executive Master Sgt. Aldin Rañola, officer-on-case, said that the incident is still under investigation to determine if a crime was committed or the incident was purely accidental.

Train service on the PNR Lucena-San Pablo line has been restored after it ceased operation in October 2013.
