Pope appoints Advincula as member of Dicastery for Bishops


Pope Francis has appointed Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula as a member of the Dicastery for Bishops.

The Archdiocese of Manila announced the appointment of the Cardinal on Wednesday, July 13.

The Dicastery for Bishops is responsible for advising the Pope in the appointment of bishops around the world.

Meanwhile, CBCP News said

Advincula’s appointment to the Dicastery for Bishops is his second membership of a Vatican office since becoming a cardinal two years ago.

In December 2020, the Pope also appointed Advincula as a member of the Congregation for the Clergy.

Wednesday’s new appointments include three women, the first time women have been appointed to the dicastery.
