Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) president Bambol Tolentino said Thursday the country has earned hosting rights for the 2033 Southeast Asian Games.
“We offered a bid to host anew in 2033 and the council unanimously approved,” Tolentino said following the SEA Games Federation Council Meeting held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
This would be the fifth time that the country would host the biennial meet, the last in 2019 where the country won the overall championship with 149 gold, 117 silver and 121 bronze medals.
After Phnom Penh hosts the 32nd edition next year, the next host would be Bangkok, Thailand in 2025, followed by Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2027, Singapore in 2029 and Laos in 2031.
Tolentino said after presenting the hosting bid to the council and following its approval, the POC and the SEA Games Council will ask the Philippine government to issue a letter of support.
The hosting rights will be offered to another country if the government declines.
The 31st edition was held last May in Hanoi, Vietnam with the PH team winning 50 gold, 70 silver and 105 bronze medals in fourth place.
