ZAMBOANGA CITY – Total hog mortalities here reached 1,500 after an additional 386 succumbed to the African Swine Fever (ASF) early this week, according to data released by the Office of the City Veterinarian.

Barangay officials have set up their own checkpoints and are closely monitoring the entry and exit of animals, particularly hogs and meat products.
Barangays Licomo, Quiniput, Curuan, Mangusu, and other barangays under Vitali District have set up their checkpoints.
The Office of the City Veterinarian and the Department of Agriculture spearheaded dialogues to advise livestock raisers on ASF prevention.
The virus has spread to 15 barangays in Zamboanga City, including communities in Pasonanca, Mangusu, Vitali, and Bunguiao.
More than 300 hog raisers in Zamboanga City have been affected by the virus and have received financial assistance from the Zamboanga city government.
Zamboanga City remains under the Red Zone classification of the Department of Agriculture due to the continued presence of ASF.
