“Gayunpaman, kailangan nating pagtuunan ng pansin ang banta ng bagong Omicron subvariants BA.4 at BA.5. Kasalukuyang tumataas ang mga kaso nito sa bansa. Sa awa ng ating Panginoon, wala pang naitatalang kaso ng bagong subvariants sa Taguig. Minamatyagan nating mahigpit ang sitwasyon sa tulong ng ating mahuhusay na espesyalistang pangkalusugan. (However, we need to focus on the threat of the new Omicron subvariants BA.4 and BA.5. These cases are increasing in the country. By the grace of God, there are now recorded cases yet of the new subvariants in Taguig. We are closely monitoring the situation with the help of our health specialists),” Cayetano said in a video.

In a media briefing on July 12, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire announced that based on genome sequencing from July 7 to 11, the country detected 60 additional cases of the BA.5 Omicron subvariant to bring the total to 293.

In addition, the country added two new cases of BA.4 subvariant to bring the total to 12, and 17 new cases of the BA.2.12.1 subvariant to bring the total to 87.

Cayetano said based on reports, Taguig is still at a low-risk level although the number of Covid-19 cases in the city is rising.

Based on the Department of Health’s Covid-19 Tracker, Taguig added 37 new Covid-19 cases on July 12 to bring the number of active cases to 497 out of 84,835 total confirmed cases, 83,797 recoveries, and 541 deaths.

In a report, the Taguig City government recorded 157 new cases in the city from July 3 to 9, higher compared to the previous week.

The city government said Taguig is still at a low-risk level with an average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 2.37 per 100,000 population. The ADAR is based on a seven-day average of new Covid-19 cases per 100,000 individuals.

The DOH reported that from July 4 to 10, the country tallied 10,271 new Covid-19 cases, higher by 39 percent compared to the total from June 27 to July 3.

Cayetano lamented the low number of people who have received booster shots. She said only 34 percent have been vaccinated with the first booster and only two percent with the second booster shot.

“Kaya’t hinihikayat ko ang lahat na patuloy nating sundin ang tamang pagsusuot ng face mask, mag-isolate kung may nararamdamang sintomas ng Covid-19, at agad na magpatingin sa ating barangay health centers o ospital kung may sintomas o na-exposed sa nagpositibo sa COVID-19. (That is why I urge everyone to continue following the proper wearing of face masks, isolate if you feel symptoms of Covid-19, and immediately be examined at our barangay health centers or hospital if you have symptoms or were exposed to anyone who tested positive for Covid-19),” she said.

She added that people should get vaccinated and receive their booster shot if they are already eligible.
