Quezon City No. 1 in dengue cases in NCR but Malabon has highest attack rate
Quezon City, Caloocan, and Taguig recorded the highest number of dengue cases in the National Capital Region from January to July this year but Malabon has the highest attack rate.Â
Data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that from Jan. 1 to July 9, the NCR tallied 6,079 dengue cases with an attack rate of 4.31 per 10,000 people based on the total population of 14.11 million for the region.Â

Based on the number of dengue cases, among the 17 local government units (LGU) in the NCR, Quezon City, the most populous in the region, has the highest tally with 1,205 cases for the period.
It was followed by Caloocan with 732 dengue cases; Taguig, 703; Manila, 693; Valenzuela, 617; Malabon, 565; Pasig, 276; Makati, 212; Marikina, 210; Paranaque, 185; Las Pinas, 175; Mandaluyong, 120; Muntinlupa, 98; Pasay, 70; San Juan, 58; and Pateros, the smallest LGU in NCR, 33.Â
But based on attack rate, or the number of cases over the total population for each LGU, Malabon is No. 1 with 14.1 attack rate, followed by Valenzuela, 9.07; Taguig, 7.97; Pateros, 4.71; Navotas, 4.64; San Juan, 4.33; Marikina, 4.25; Caloocan, 4.21; Quezon City, 3.74; Manila, 3.55; Pasig, 3.33; Makati, 3.32; Mandaluyong, 2.83; Las Pinas, 2.71; Paranaque, 2.53; Muntinlupa, 1.77; and Pasay, 1.53.Â
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said 15 of the 17 regions in the country have already surpassed the epidemic threshold for dengue, or the number of cases in one area has surpassed what was expected.
