LTO revokes license of motorcycle rider who almost hit a cyclist in QC bike lane

One less "kamote rider" on the road.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the driver's license of a motorcycle rider who endangered the life of a bicycle rider when he overtook right inside a designated bicycle lane in Quezon City.

The worst part of the behavior of Romeo M. Morales, according to the LTO, was that he was the one who got mad and even engaged the bicycle rider in a heated altercation on road rules.

The incident went viral on social media with netizens describing Morales as a "kamote rider", a term used for motorcycle rider who deliberately disregard road rules, and sometimes proud of the misdemeanors they would commit.

In a statement, the LTO said they immediately issued a show cause order on Morales after learning of the incident based on the pieces of evidence they obtained that led to his identification.

"He almost hit a cyclist traversing along a designated bicycle lane in Quezon City when he attempted to overtake with complete disregard for safety," the LTO said in a statement.

During the hearing held on June 24, Morales confirmed his identity as the driver at the time of the incident.

The LTO revoked the professional driver's license of Morales and also ordered him to immediately transfer the ownership of his motorcycle under his name within 20 days.

He was also ordered to pay fines P3,000 for two violations.
