Rains because of the combined effects of the low pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon will continue to affect some parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, July 12.
In the PAGASA’s 11 a.m. weather advisory, the LPA was estimated at 275 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, as of 10 a.m.
PAGASA said the weather disturbance remains less likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.
Nevertheless, the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” and the LPA may bring “light to moderate with at times heavy rains” over Bicol Region, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Bataan, Zambales, Quezon, Aurora, and Isabela.
“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazards maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers because of the habagat and localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
