Justin De Los Santos to compete in British Open

Justin De Los Santos will be representing the Philippines when he competes in the 2022 British Open starting Thursday in St. Andrews.

The 26-year-old took the last four Open Championship places from Japan Tour’s Mizuno Open last May where he finished fourth behind fellow qualifiers Scott Vincent, Anthony Quayle and Brad Kennedy.

He started that week ranked 610th in the world, and was down to joint 55th place after the opening day.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for me – my first time playing in a major,” De Los Santos said.

“It will also be my first time in Europe and should be fun. St. Andrews is a special place with a lot of history – it will be awesome to play there.”

Born in California, De Los Santos turned pro in 2017.

His last tournament with the Japan Golf Tour was at the Japan Players Championship last month, where he finished tied at 29th.
