Covid-19 growth rate 'slowing down' in Metro Manila — OCTA

OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David on Tuesday, July 12, said that the Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila “may be close to peaking, or may have already peaked,” based on the slower increase in growth in the central region over the past week.
In an update shared on Twitter, David noted that the weekly growth rate in Metro Manila has decreased from 57 percent on July 4 to 32 percent on July 11.
Meanwhile, the reproduction number—or the average number of secondary infections by each infected individual—has decreased from 1.59 on July 1, to 1.47 on July 8.
The region’s positivity as of July 10 was 10.9 percent. Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who were tested for Covid-19.
Furthermore, Metro Manila averaged 710 cases over the past week. This is equivalent to an average daily attack rate of 4.93 per day per 100,000 population, he added.
Meanwhile, the region’s health care utilization rate has increased to 28 percent, while the intensive care utilization rate was at 20 percent.
“The indicators show a slowing down of the growth rate in cases and there is a chance the cases in the NCR are peaking or have already peaked,” David said.
“The trends should be clearer after a week,” he added.
