6 dead, 2 injured in concrete structure collapse in Tagaytay

TAGAYTAY CITY – Six people died while two others were injured when a concrete fence collapsed in Barangay Kaybagal Central here Monday night, July 11.

The victims were identified as Niño Villasquez, Ronilo Casaljay, Daniel Nesperos, William Ocong, Ramer Gamba, and Jerimy Doña, all construction workers at a site for a private bungalow. 

Staff Sergeant Archie P. Paclibar of theTagaytay City Police Station (CPS) told the Manila Bulletin that operatives retrieved the remains of the six victims at 12:45 on July 12.

Two men, on the other hand, were rescued from the site. 

Engineer Marco Paulo Abarrientos sustained minor head injuries while Anthony Villasquez sustained hip injuries and was taken to the Philippine Orthopedic Center in Quezon City.

According to the Tagaytay CPS, the victims were resting in their construction barracks when the concrete fence made of cemented hollow blocks collapsed amid a heavy rainfall.

Investigation is still ongoing and the cost of damage has yet to be determined.
