158 individuals rescued after ferry boat suffers engine trouble in Cebu
A ferry boat has encountered engine trouble while sailing in the vicinity waters of Liloan, Cebu but all the 158 passengers and crew members managed to safely disembark, thanks to the timely response of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the agency said Tuesday, July 12.

The PCG said MV Lite Ferry 11 was travelling to Ormoc City last July 10 when its port and starboard engine suddenly failed due to diluted fuel. The vessel was stranded at sea in Liloan.
The vessel managed to anchor two nautical miles from Bagacay Point in Liloan, Cebu and radioed for assistance from the PCG.
The vessel restored its engine shortly afterwards but the anchor got stuck from the shallow waters so it was unable to heave in. The crew then decided to cut the anchor chain and returned to the nearest pier in Cebu.
The PCG provided food packs for the passengers and extended further assistance to the vessel until it arrived at Pier 4 in Cebu City around 10:24 p.m. of that day.
The passengers resumed their trip at 11 p.m. of July 11 from Mandaue City to Ormoc City onboard MV Lite Ferry 27.
