A 27-year-old woman was buried alive when a landslide hit Abucay, Bataan over the weekend, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) disclosed Monday, July 11.

A report from the NDRRMC National Operations Center (NOC) identified the fatality as Roselyn dela Cruz, a resort caretaker and a resident of Barangay Gabon in Abucay town.
Citing information from the Bataan provincial DRRM office, the NDRRMC said heavy rains were experienced in Bataan around 3 a.m. last July 9.
This resulted in a landslide which affected dela Cruz’ house.
The fatality’s father, Ramy, discovered that her daughter’s house was buried in soil around 7 a.m. of the same day, prompting him to seek assistance from barangay officials.
The body of the fatality was retrieved by search, rescue, and retrieval (SRR) personnel from Abucay and brought to Jumong Funeral Services in Brgy. Capitangan, Abucay.
Dela Cruz had three children who went unharmed after they reportedly slept in Ramy’s house in a nearby area.
NDRRMC officer-in-charge Jose Faustino Jr. reminded the public to be vigilant and prepared for the increasing likelihood of flood and landslide during the rainy season.
“The NDRRMC will continue to strengthen its mechanisms, systems, and actions that will ensure the safety of our people,” Faustino said.
