Vosotros clutch as Gilas stuns top seed Mongolia to reach 3x3 Asia Cup semis
Almond Vosotros showed nerves of steel anew as Gilas Pilipinas pulled off a huge upset against top seed Mongolia, 21-20, in the quarterfinals of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup Sunday, July 10, at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

With the Mongolians already in match point, 20-18, Vosotros scored three straight points capped by the game-clinching deuce with 1:34 left in the clock to send the Filipinos to the semifinals of the continental tiff.
After struggling the last time out against China, Vosotros regained his touch from the field, finishing with eight points built on three two-pointers. Gilas also got a huge lift from Samboy De Leon who finished with seven points while Joseph Eriobu and Lervin Flores chipped in five and one respectively.
With the game tied 18-all, Dulguun Enkhbat and Otgonjargal Tsogt put the Mongolians in match point with their back-to-back hits. Refusing to go down without a fight, Vosotros was fouled while taking a right corner deuce that could have tied the knot anew.
Vosotro split the pressure-packed free throws but De Leon collared the crucial offensive board before sending it over to Vosotros who drilled the dagger long bomb.
Anand Ariunbold paced Mongolia with eight points while Delgernyanm Davaasambuu added six.
Gilas will face New Zealand with a shot for the title at stake. The Kiwis, just like the Filipinos, placed second in its pool with a 1-1 record before they survived Japan, 16-14, to advance to the final four.
