A total of 164 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) belonging to the Islamic faith in the Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) participated in the celebration of "Eid al-Adha" or "Feast of Sacrifice" on Saturday, July 9.
According to the QCJMD, the Muslim PDLS took a ritual bath, wore nice and clean clothes, and offered an early morning prayer as a preparation for a special prayer for the occasion called "Eid Salat."

Imam Abobacar A. Panda of Daarol Uloom Religious Camp Cultural Center Inc. (DURCCI), in San Miguel, Quiapo, Manila led the PDLs in offering the Eid Salat to Allah or the God in Islam.
It was followed by a "Qurbani ritual" or "Act of Sacrifice" where cow meat was distributed to the Muslim PDLs.
The said ritual is considered an act to help the Muslims grow closer to God and to strengthen their faith.
The Eid al-Adha is regarded as the most important feast in the Muslim calendar as it signifies the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, following the command given by Allah.
Under Republic Act No. 9849, the 10th day of "Dhu al-Hijjah" (the twelfth month of the Islamic Calendar) is declared as a national holiday for the observance of the Feast of Sacrifice, the QCJMD said.
