Mayor Honey cleans up Manila City Hall on first day in office

On her first day in office, Manila Mayor Sheila "Honey" Lacuna-Pangan conducted an ocular inspection of the Manila City Hall offices, premises, and grounds to determine areas for improvement and renovation.

Lacuna made the inspection to help her determine more "efficient uses of space" in the city hall.

As a first step under her governance, she sought to provide city hall departments with adequate office spaces to conduct their daily duties and deliver services to the public more efficiently.

The Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) was cited as an example of office that lacks proper space since it currently uses the inner court of the city hall as its main office.

"Tinyaga po namin na ikutin halos lahat ng mga tanggapan dito sa Manila City Hall para makita kung ano pa ‘yung mga kailangan ayusin, tanggalin (We tried to visit almost all of the offices of the Manila City Hall so we can see what needs to be fixed, removed)," Lacuna said in a statement released by the city's Public Information Office (PIO).

The mayor surveyed the areas with other city hall officials and asked for the immediate removal of broken items and equipment such as windows and chairs.

A clean-up drive was done simultaneously to rid the city hall of littered and damaged materials.

She also requested to remove vehicles parked in non-parking areas, and fix vehicles that were improperly parked in their respective parking spaces.

Among the places she ventured were the Bagong Maynila E-Business One Stop Shop, the Manila Police District offices, and the Manila City Jail Female Dormitory.

Lacuna visited the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) where she was shown the current capacity of the office in disaster response.

Personnel of the DRRMO presented to the mayor the tools they use to monitor the weather, as well as the central closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) that monitors the situation in the city.

The activity also served as an opportunity for her to meet and talk with the city hall employees and staff.

"At the same time, para ma-meet ko rin ‘yung mga kawani ng Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Maynila. Siyempre sila ‘yung magiging mga katuwang ko sa susunod na tatlong taon (At the same time, I can also meet the employees of the city government of Manila. They will be my allies in the next three years)," Lacuna said.

Lacuna was proclaimed the winner in the Manila mayoral race on May 11, following the May 9 elections.

She took her oath of office as the first female mayor of Manila on Wednesday, June 29, at the Manila Cathedral.

She served as the vice mayor of Manila for two terms, having won the 2016 and 2019 local elections.
