Tropical depression “Domeng” and severe tropical storm “Chaba,” formerly “Caloy,” may continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, which could bring rains over the western sections of Central and Southern Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday, July 1.

In its 4 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said that monsoon rains may prevail over Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.

It advised those in these areas to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to “scattered to widespread moderate to at times heavy rains.”

Meanwhile, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Western Visayas, and the rest of Central Luzon.

“Possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains” may also occur in these areas, PAGASA warned.

As of 4 a.m, Domeng was at 950 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes, while Chaba remained outside the country’s area of responsibility.

PAGASA said both tropical cyclones have no direct effect on the country but continued to enhance the southwest monsoon, locally called “habagat.”

Based on the latest track, Domeng may exit the country’s area of responsibility by Saturday afternoon or evening, July 2.
