President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. would like the Philippines to have more economic activities with the United States as the relationship between the two countries is currently "strong" and "stable," Ambassador to the US Babe Romualdez said Friday.

Romualdez said Marcos Jr. gave him the marching order, which he saw without problem as "we're already going along that path."

"We've had a quite number of economic forums in the past. We're going to have more of that," Romualdez said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

The US' economic interest in the country was proven true by "a lot of inquiry" the government is getting, the diplomat said.

In fact, Romualdez added, the Philippines has "had some major investments even during the pandemic."

"I've had my conversation with the Finance Sec. Ben Diokno, who told me that we would like to continue, if not double up, our effort in promoting the economy and getting more foreign investments, particularly from the United States. And I think we will be having a lot of that," he said.

Romualdez also saw the relationship between the US and the Philippines as "very stable and strong." He said President Joe Biden was even the first to congratulate Marcos Jr. when he won the presidency and expressed willingness to work with him.

"This is very significant because there's a lot of effort on the part of the US to reach out to the new administration of President Marcos and to move forward and make it stronger," he added.
