Phivolcs records 5 volcanic quakes in Bulusan over past 24 hours
Five volcanic earthquakes were recorded in Bulusan Volcano over the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Thursday, June 9.

As its low-level unrest continues, Phivolcs said that 5 volcanic quakes were recorded in Bulusan over the past 24-hour period. Apart from this, it likewise disclosed in its latest bulletin that the volcano's sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission averaged 1,421 tonnes per day on June 7, 2022, adding that a voluminous emission of plume of at least 250 meters tall was observed.
With these observations, Phivolcs underscored that Alert Level 1 remained hoisted in Bulusan. Under this alert level, a slight increase in volcanic earthquake and steam or gas activity may be observed.
“Entry into the 4 kilometer (km)-radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and entry without vigilance into the Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) is not allowed. Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions and other possible hazards may occur,” Phivolcs warned.
A phreatic eruption occurred at Bulusan Volcano on Sunday, June 5. This prompted officials to raise the volcano’s alert level from 0 to 1.
