Metro Manila’s Covid-19 positivity rate now at 2.2%, OCTA says


An uptick in Metro Manila’s Covid-19 positivity rate was observed by independent group OCTA Research on Thursday evening, June 9.

“The situation in the National Capital Region (NCR) has become more concerning as the positivity rate, at 1.5 percent a week ago, has increased to 2.2 percent as of June 8, 2022,” said OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David in a tweet.

Apart from this, David likewise disclosed that the Covid-19 reproduction number in Metro Manila has also increased from 1.15 on May 31 to 1.29 as of June 6, 2022.

“The 7-day average of new cases in the NCR has increased by 28 percent to 102. The last time the 7-day average was above 100 was on April 8. Hospital bed occupancy for Covid-19 in NCR also increased from 1,272 beds occupied on June 5 to 1,520 beds occupied on June 8,” David furthered.

Although Metro Manila remained at the low risk classification, David urged the public to not be complacent amid the pandemic. He likewise advised the continuous observance of health protocols, such as, but not limited to the use of face masks and the adherence to physical distancing.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH), on Thursday, June 9, likewise reiterated that the use of face masks is still mandatory in the country in accordance with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ rules.
