CEBU CITY – Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia spent over P1 M in her successful campaign in last month’s elections.
The reelected governor’s challenger, former Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, also shelled out over P1 million.
Based on her Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCEs) filed before the Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Cebu, Garcia spent P1.65 million to win a fifth term as Cebu governor.
Garcia posted a landslide victory, getting 1,478,436 votes against Durano’s 341,455.
She secured the lopsided victory although her expenses for the 2022 elections were P3 million lower compared to the 2019 mid-term elections when she defeated then Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale.
Durano spent P1.38 million in his failed bid to unseat Garcia who is the president of the influential One Cebu party.
Also among the top spenders is Garcia’s son-in-law, Duke Frasco, who was reelected congressman of the fifth district of Cebu.
Frasco spent P1.03 million in his victory over Durano’s brother Red, a former congressman in the fifth district.
Duke Frasco is the husband of Gov. Garcia’s daughter Liloan, Cebu Mayor and incoming Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco.
