Bicol sets up evacuation centers for calamity survivors

Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon, chairman of the Catholic Bishops’Conference of the Philippines-Episcopal Commission on Prison Pastoral Care said, the Bicol Region has set up evacuation centers for calamity survivors as part of its contingency measures in times of disasters.

“We have learned to develop a method in times of disasters. The Bicol region has set up evacuation centers for calamity victims. Many municipalities and cities have already built evacuation centers for families affected by calamities like typhoons,” said Bishop Baylon over

The Church leader said the recent phreatic eruption of Mount Bulusan was hardly felt in Legazpi, Albany which is more than 50 kilometers from Bulusan which is part of Sorsogon.

According to Caritas Sorsogon, around 45 families or more than 150 individuals were brought to evacuation centers after the phreatic eruption of Mount Bulusan.
