Villanueva calls for faster distribution of subsidies to transport, agricultural sectors
Senator Joel Villanueva on Wednesday, June 8 asked government to make the distribution of subsidies faster and more efficient for the transport and agriculture sector.
Villanueva, chairman of the Senate labor committee, said that as of June 1, the government has distributed P1.17 billion in fuel subsidies, while P6.1 billion has been allotted.
‘’We also call for the distribution of an additional P2-billion for our farmers and fisherfolk because the P500- million fuel subsidy program simply isn’t enough,’’ he added.
‘’Meanwhile, we thank all the regional wage boards for responding to our call for a P30-P110 wage increase. More than ever, we are still pushing for a living wage for our workers, as well as wage subsidies for small businesses in times of crisis to address the rising costs of goods,’’ he stressed.
Earlier, Senator Risa Hontiveros today urged the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to immediately review the petition to increase the minimum fare of public utility jeepneys to help boost the earnings of the drivers as fuel prices continue to rise.
Hontiveros made the statement after jeepney drivers expressed worry about losing income because of the prolonged period of fuel price increases as well as free rides from the government.
