A man was arrested by the police for illegal possession of an improvised firearm in Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa on June 6.
The Muntinlupa police identified the suspect as Vincent Fabia, 23, a resident of Alabang.
Members of the Alabang police sub-station were conducting “Oplan Galugad” when they saw Fabia standing in an alley and holding a gun, prompting them to arrest him.
Seized from the suspect was one improvised shotgun loaded with one live ammunition.
The suspect is under the custody of Muntinlupa police for proper disposition. Fabia will face a complaint for violations of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) for illegal possession of an improvised firearm and ammunition, and Batas Pambansa 881 (Omnibus Election Code) for violating the gun ban.
The Commission on Elections has imposed a gun ban until June 8 in connection with the May 9 national and local elections.
“Sa pagpapatuloy ng ating ipinatutupad na COMELEC gun ban marami pa din sa ating mga kababayan ang lumalabag sa batas. Dapat nating hulihin ang mga indibidwal na nasasangkot sa illegal na pagdadala ng ipinagbabawal na mga armas na ginagamit nila sa kanilang mga illegal na gawain. (In our continued implementation of the Comelec gun ban, there are still many citizens who violate the law. We should arrest the individuals involved in illegally carrying prohibited firearms that they use in their illegal activities),” said Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg.
