Italy, Brunei envoys meet with President-elect Marcos Jr.

Ambassadors of Italy and Brunei Darussalam have met with President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to express both nations' intention to bolster ties with the Philippines under the new administration.

Italian Ambassador Marco Clemente and Brunei Darussalam Ambassador Johariah Wahab paid a courtesy call to Marcos at his headquarters in Mandaluyong on Monday, June 6.

Clemente disclosed that he and the incoming president discussed "possible future initiatives" between the two countries to strengthen their bilateral relations.

"We explored together possible future initiatives to further strengthen the already excellent bilateral relations," the Italian ambassador said.

Wahab, on the other hand, had talked about various areas of cooperation such as labour, education, health, and culture.

Marcos expressed that he looks forward to further "strengthening the diplomatic relations our both countries have enjoyed over the past 30 years."

Last week, four diplomats also met with the incoming president.

Ambassador of Singapore Gerard Ho, Ambassador of United Kingdom Laure Beaufils, Ambassador of European Union Luc Veron, and Ambassador of France Michele Boccoz paid a courtesy call to Marcos on May 30.

Prior to this, ambassadors of the United States, Japan, South Korea, and India have also visited the President-elect.

Some time this week or early next week, United States Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman is expected to meet Marcos Jr. during her visit in Manila.
